Hey, Are You Ending With a Period?
Sometimes the greatest lessons in the job hunt are the easiest to learn. Many of the tips that you get come from life lessons everyone can rel;ate to - like when I learned as a little kid to end my sentences with a period and not a question mark. Reminds me of a story...
How about you?
Think for a moment about the times when you have wanted to express yourself directly to someone else and had a hitch in your voice. Maybe it was shyness or trying something for the first time like asking someone on a date. There are times you want to end your sentences with a period to show you are self-assured about what you want to say like when you want to get a refund when you have been overcharged on a purchase.
I learned it when I was trying to explain something to my mom - not to keep out of trouble (though that was on my mind) - but to express something that I knew was right.
Putting It To Work - Ending With A Period
Now think of this in terms of your job search. You already know about yourself and in fact, YOU are the world's expert on YOU. Once you have a clear understanding about the skills and capabilities you offer an employer, you can practice how you will express it.
Take a look through the articles on the Job Hunting HERO Method found at www.jobhunterstoolkit.com and organize your thoughts as you compare the talents you are bringing to an employer with the needs that company has for that job.
The first time you practice, the sounds make come out as unsure, soft or having a little question mark attached. As you practice and become more certain of what you are saying, you will get the right sound down.
Remember, if you do not sound sure, why should the employer be sure about you?
So now you can stride to that employer with confidence, the right sound - and you did not have to break any dishes to prove it.
